It is with deep sorrow that the Democratic Party of York County announces the passing of our esteemed leader, dedicated volunteer, and cherished friend, Darlene Harner. Darlene served as the longstanding chair of the Western York County Democratic Club, having stepped down just a few weeks ago at the March 2025 meeting.

Darlene was a fervent advocate for Democrats and Democratic principles, particularly in the realm of union organizing. As one of the pioneering women in her predominantly male-dominated workplace, Darlene consistently distinguished herself as a formidable champion for the rights of unionized workers.

In 2019, Darlene was honored with the Mayor Elizabeth Marshall Lifetime Service Award, presented by the Democratic Party of York County at the fall dinner that year. She was only the third individual to receive this prestigious award at that time.

"Darlene was always eager to share her insights on the political landscape," remarked York County Democratic Chair Chad Baker. "She attended every event and never hesitated to make her voice heard. I considered her a dear friend and am profoundly saddened by her passing. Her influence will be felt for decades through the many individuals she connected with and supported, myself included."

Arrangements for Darlene Harner's services have not yet been finalized. We will provide further details as they become available.
