A Bit About Shanna

I am the Band Director at East Pennsboro Middle School. I ran for State Representative in 2018.  I am active with PA Stands Up, MOMS Demand Action, and a founding member of the NoYoDems. I volunteer with the County and State Party because it's important that we elect leaders who care about our kids, our environment, and our working families. I also serve on Democratic State Committee for York County, the Carroll Township Committeewoman.

Why are you running for office?
I’m running for State Senate in the 31st District to be an advocate for strong public education, to fight for healthcare for all Pennsylvanians, to bring transparency and accountability to the state legislature, and to combat the climate crisis.

Hope to achieve:
Strong public education that is equitable and robust; healthcare for all Pennsylvanians; a bold climate agenda that protects our planet while shifting our focus to green energy, sustainable agriculture, and ending our reliance on fossil fuels; and a transparent government that responds to the needs of its people — putting working people first, not the wealthy few.

Biggest issue/top priority:
Right now, the biggest issue for my district is the COVID-19 crisis, economic fallout, and the path to recovery. Before the pandemic hit, folks were worried about their property taxes and poor air quality in the district.

Most optimistic about: We have an opportunity this year to restore a seat at the table to the working people of this district. We have an incredible slate of candidates from State House straight up to President, and we have a district that is growing tired of the gridlock.

The importance of civic involvement: It is imperative that people are engaged in local politics. The pandemic has made it quite clear that sitting out local elections results in unqualified people making disastrous decisions for the people in our communities.
