Congressman Joe Sestack, U.S. Senate Candidate,
Headlines York County Democrats Annual Dinner
YORK, PA – Congressman Joe Sestak, who is hoping to join Bob Casey as Pennsylvania’s second U.S. Senator, will address York County Democrats at their annual Gov. George M. Leader Fall Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St. The event, which is open to the public and requires advance registration, begins with a social hour at 6 p.m.
By challenging long-time Sen. Arlen Specter, who recently switched from Republican to Democrat, Sestak has turned the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate into one of the most hotly contested and closely watched in the nation. Specter’s switch won him the endorsements of such Democratic Party luminaries as President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Gov. Ed Rendell.
But Sestak, a retired United States Navy Rear Admiral says he’s in it to win it. “My training has taught me not to enter a battle unless I am prepared to win,” he said in an earlier visit to York. In 2006, Sestak challenged Republican Curt Weldon, a 10-term incumbent, in his race for the 7th district Congressional seat. He defeated Weldon by a 12-point margin, becoming only the second Democrat to represent Delaware County since the Civil War.
“Rep. Sestak has stated publicly his strong support for a ‘public option’ health plan,” said Jim Poland, who is chairing the dinner as vice chair of finance for the Democratic Party of York County. “Attendees of the Fall Dinner should look forward to hearing a member of the U.S. House of Representatives share his insights.”
Tickets are $35, donor level; $60, sponsor level, and $500 for a sponsor table for eight. They may be purchased on-line at www.yorkdems.org/events or by sending a personal check to Democratic Headquarters, PO Box 1862, York, PA 17405. Please indicate choice of chicken or vegetarian entrée.
JUDICIAL CANDIDATES RECEPTION: A special reception for statewide judicial candidates will be held at 6 p.m. An additional $15 is required to attend this event.
