DPOYC QUADRENNIAL REORGANIZATION MEETING
TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 2018
REGISTRATION BEGINS 6:00 PM; MEETING BEGINS AT 7:00 PM
UAW LOCAL 1872, 3562 GILLESPIE DRIVE, YORK, PA 17404
In every Primary year where the Governor is elected, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party (more commonly referred to as “State Committee”) and all 67 Democratic County Committees must reorganize per Pennsylvania Democratic Party Bylaws: Rule VII, Section 1-5.
Each County Committee shall meet to reorganize by electing officers and other leaders provided for in the county bylaws. The Democratic Party of York County’s (DPOYC) bylaws require the election of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary plus ten (10) Regional Field Organizers.
Elections of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson must be gender balanced.
The Reorganization Meeting is open to the public, however only those eligible (i.e. - elected members of the County Committee who are registered Democratic voters on the roll in the York County Elections/Voter Registration Office) may vote.
A quorum is required which for the Reorganization Meeting shall consist of fifty percent (50%) of the duly elected Committee Persons plus one (1).
If you were elected as a precinct committee person, you should have received a letter from the Democratic Party of York County indicated that you had been elected. Some letters were mailed today in the case of those who may have had a tie to be decided by the Board of Elections. Those letters should appear in your mail this week.
If you choose to accept the position and are attending the Reorganization meeting, please complete this form to RSVP. Attendance is mandatory for all elected committee people. (if you have already RSVP'd by email, phone, etc., you do not need to fill out this form)
If you are unable to attend, you can assign a proxy to attend in your place. Please fill out the RSVP form linked above and complete a proxy form for your proxy. Proxy forms were mailed, but can also found by clicking here.
On occasion, a person is elected to the County Committee without their knowing. This generally occurs when a friend or relative writes-in someone for Committee Person as a “joke”. This is not particularly funny as every certified vote tally is legally binding. This may result in numerous adverse complications affecting the operation of the Democratic Party of York County including, but not limited to, an inability to reach a quorum at meetings thereby preventing any business from being conducted.
If this has happened to you and you do NOT wish to be seated on the County Committee we ask that you submit in writing a Letter of Non-Acceptance or you can simply email us to decline the position. The notice can be emailed to: email@example.com. This must be done no later than Monday, June 11, 2018.
County Committee Officer Elections
As indicated above, each County Committee shall meet to reorganize by electing officers and other leaders provided for in the county bylaws. The Democratic Party of York County’s (DPOYC) bylaws require the election of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary plus ten (10) Regional Field Organizers.
Those running for these positions must obtain ten signatures on a petition the night of the event in order to be officially nominated for the position.
As a service to those interested in running, if you would like the DPOYC to send a message via email regarding your candidacy, please send all letters to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will make sure they are sent via email prior to the night of the reorganization.
This is an incredibly important meeting. If you have been elected and plan to remain a committee person, please RSVP and be sure to attend.
